Crowds Turn Out For County Louth Agricultural Show |
|
Crowds in their thousands made their way to the state of the art Dundalk Stadium for the 120th County Louth Agricultural Show on Sunday 19th June. it was a show with not just a national but also an international feel as a group of Agric-Science students from Oklahoma flew into the country to experience the show and just like the thousands that attended did not leave disappointed. Luckily the threatened rain never materialised and instead those that attended were treated to a carnival atmosphere.
The standard of competition in the animal classes was second to none and drew entries from all over the country. Glamorous grannies and very stylish teenagers and ladies got to show off their style in the Best Dressed Competitions and judges who included personal stylist (MYA.IE) Caroline McElroy, Anthony Murphy Dundalk Democrat and Rose of Tralee Coordinator Brendan Galvin faced some very tough judging decisions such was the standard of style. Winners included Best Dressed Lady Marie O’Sullivan from Newtownbalregan, Glamorous Granny Mary Mcentaggart from Hackballscross and Best Dressed Teenager Ellie Connolly from Blackrock. The babies entered the Bonny Baby in their droves and thanks to the generosity of Paddy Clarke Photography every baby who entered was a winner as all babies received a gift on the day.
The Louth Expo On Your Doorstep marquee drew continuous visitors throughout the day where they were treated to an exhibition of all the business, groups and tourist attractions that make Louth the great county that it is and proved to be a great showcase for County Louth. Trade stands also were a big draw on the day which promoted everything from agricultural supplies to jewellery and tasty food treats. The Marshes Centre fashion show proved to be very popular with those with a love for glamour and great style tips were picked up on the day from a captive audience.
Great amusement was had in the Welly Throwing Competition with a welly off having to be called for as there were a dead heat between Alan McEntaggart and Maurice Townley. Maurice eventually won the welly off with a distance of 29m 30cm and proudly carried home the Golden Welly. A fit and energetic number of competitors took part in the Wife Carrying race and despite numerous falls and questionable carrying techniques the proud winners Joe and Trish O’Reilly carried home the wife carrying trophy.
Dundalk Stadium proved to be the perfect venue to showcase the best of produce, skills, crafts and traditions of the county and it will come as no surprise that many of those who attended the County Louth Agricultural Show on the day will look for an excuse to make a return journey to the stadium. The County Louth Agricultural Show ensured that everyone young and old went home not only exhausted but also very happy with their show day experience. |
